The Marlborough Airport welcome wall needed more than a new look—it needed to work harder for visitors. I worked with Destination Marlborough and Rangitāne o Wairau to design a large-format display that greets travellers with clarity, warmth, and a strong sense of local identity.
The wall combines a regional map, key attractions, cultural facts, and bilingual place names to help visitors understand where they are, not just where they’re going. It’s both a wayfinding tool and a visual introduction to Marlborough’s story.
A built-in QR code connects people directly to the region’s official visitor guide—available in both print and digital format. The map and custom illustrations used on the wall are also featured in the guide, creating brand continuity and a seamless visitor experience across touchpoints.
The blank space to the right of the map is where a digital screen will be installed. The screen will allow Destination Marlborough to feature seasonal content, updates, and dynamic storytelling that brings even more depth to the visitor experience.
This high-visibility project brought together multiple partners and required thoughtful design for scale, readability, and brand alignment. The final result is a striking and informative welcome that reflects the best of the region from the moment people arrive.
